3D Printing in Clay

– Jonathan Keep and Tom Lauerman

A hands-on experience of 3D printing in clay led by two practitioners and developers of the process. Jonathan Keep’s open source clay printer design can be found in studios and universities around the world, while Tom Lauerman’s open source clay printer contributions have helped further develop and broaden this burgeoning technology. Using an experimental 3D clay printer designed by Tom Lauerman with material and technical support from Penn State CIMP-3D and Penn State Learning factory, the two will demonstrate how clay can be printed at a range of scales and resolution levels for a number of potential applications. Example prints will also be on hand to showcase form and surface variations.
